Trident Microsystems Selects Catalytic RMS from Catalytic Inc. to Improve Signal Processing Design Flow

Accelerates Trident Algorithm Simulations by 10 Times

Palo Alto, Calif. –– May 24, 2006 –– Catalytic Inc., a technology innovator focused on significantly accelerating signal processing algorithm design and implementation, announced today that Trident Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID) has selected Catalytic RMS to improve its signal processing design flow.

Trident, a worldwide leader in the development of advanced digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, used Catalytic RMS (Rapid MATLAB Simulator) to accelerate verification for the development of next-generation digital TV and HD-ready TV decoding and video processing algorithms. Over the past three months, Catalytic RMS increased simulation speed on Trident designs approximately 10 times on average.

Catalytic RMS works seamlessly with MATLAB from The MathWorks to provide fast simulation of MATLAB code and dynamic profiling of Trident’s algorithms for floating-point to fixed-point conversion. “Catalytic RMS has helped reduce our project cycle, a critically important consideration in the digital media market,” remarks Tejen Lin, Trident’s vice president of business development. “Catalytic RMS was a natural fit with our MATLAB-based algorithm development flow and the work done with RMS enabled us to run more tests which helped uncover issues before committing to our final implementation. We’ve also been impressed with the speed in which we were up and running because it’s a tool that’s easy to use.”

“Trident has clearly established itself as an innovator in digital TV,” adds Dave Burow, Catalytic’s chief executive officer (CEO) and president, adds. “We are excited to work with such a progressive company and we look forward to an ongoing partnership.”
