Handel-C is a powerful language superset of ANSI-C adding simple constructs that make it possible for designers using the DK Design Suite to accelerate complex algorithms directly in optimized FPGA logic or RTL descriptions. Designers can easily modify Handel-C from other C-based languages to create a rapid implementation path to FPGA.
Handel-C uses much of the syntax of conventional C with the addition of inherent parallelism. You can write sequential programs in Handel-C, but to gain maximum benefit in performance from the target hardware you must use its parallel constructs.
